We’re all prone to forgetting things from time to time, especially when we’re all excited about moving house. With so many things to consider when moving, the small things sometimes get pushed to the side and quite often forgotten about.
Problem can be though, these little things can sometimes create big problems and give you more stress than the actual moving day itself. Making a list will come in handy before, during and after the big day so take a look at these top tips for moving house to make sure you have everything covered.
Consider All Costs
Budget is no small matter, but there are some costs that can often be forgotten in the mix. By factoring in everything from removals, packing materials and changing utilities plus many other essentials you’ll make sure that your budget covers any incidentals during the move.
Measure Your Furniture
If you are taking furniture to your new home, measuring up is something that’s often forgotten about. By checking that your main items such as the beds and couch fit into their designated rooms can save any hassle when you turn up to the new house.
It’s also a good idea to check whether they’ll fit through the doors or up the stairs if they can’t be disassembled. Taking the time to work out measurements may seem a frustrating and time consuming task, but it would be more frustrating to find you can’t have the perfect layout like you planned on moving day.
Life goes on during a move, but by thinking about how much you really need to buy before the big day can prevent unnecessary wastage and extra things to move. Groceries in particular!
Try and get your fridge food down to a large eski. Avoid buying extra clothing or bedroom furniture until you’ve made the move as this’ll bulk up the amount to be moved to the new property.
Take Some Time Off
If you’ve planned your moving day on the weekend, you might think you won’t need time off to get everything done. But not having a few extra days after the move, could leave you feeling stressed and in a rush to make everything perfect before you get back to work.
By booking some holiday leave at work, this will ensure you have ample time to unpack and sort life admin out without worrying about it during your working day.
Don’t forget about the kids or pets
Moving isn’t just stressful for you, it can also put added stress on your kids and pets.
By planning a day where they spend some time with family or friends, you’ll have an uninterrupted day without worrying about the little ones, or the little furry ones.
Once you’ve got everything sorted, introducing them to the new house will be less hassle and an enjoyable experience for everyone.
